Ukraine's Liberation Day from Nazi Invaders: Reflecting on Past and Present Struggles for Freedom

On October 28, 1944, Ukraine witnessed the long-awaited liberation from Nazi occupation. For nearly 700 days, the people of Ukraine fought for every inch of their homeland, sacrificing everything to secure the future. The battle for Ukraine unfolded in cities across the country, from Kyiv and Lviv to Kharkiv and Dnipro, all of which bore witness to fierce struggles and an indomitable spirit.

Ukraine’s losses during the Nazi occupation amounted to 5.2 million people.

Today, tragically, Ukraine faces a new wave of aggression, which began on February 24, 2022. Once again, enemies are attempting to strip Ukrainians of their right to live in a free, independent nation. Families endure losses, and our soldiers, volunteers, and civilians—on the frontlines and beyond—continue the fight for our future. While the tragic journey toward freedom is far from over, we stand firm in our belief in victory, honoring the memory of all those, past and present, who have brought us closer to it.

May this day remind us that freedom demands daily dedication, sacrifice, and remembrance of the heroism of those who came before.

Eternal memory to the heroes!
