Global Rehabilitation Practices: What Ukraine Can Learn to Support Veterans
Veteran rehabilitation is a key element in their successful reintegration into civilian life. The experience of leading nations demonstrates that systematic, innovative support for veterans enables not only physical recovery but also ensures social integration and long-term development.
International examples of effective rehabilitation:
- United States: The network of rehabilitation centres under the Department of Veterans Affairs provides comprehensive care – from physical therapy to psychological support and social programmes. Special attention is paid to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment, spinal cord injuries, and amputations.
- Warrior Care Network: Medical centres across the United States offer intensive outpatient programmes, combining individual therapy, psychiatric care, and innovative techniques, including virtual reality therapies.
- United Kingdom: The Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre delivers a multidisciplinary approach encompassing physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychological support, and social reintegration programmes tailored for veterans.
- Australia: The Veteran Surf project showcases the therapeutic combination of sport, nature, and community to support veterans living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
PanteonX Foundation Initiative:
We firmly believe Ukrainian veterans deserve access to world-class rehabilitation solutions. That is why our foundation is working on establishing an innovative, barrier-free rehabilitation centre for veterans and displaced persons in Spain.
Key focus areas of the centre:
- Modern medical rehabilitation
- Psychological support, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment
- Adaptive sports as part of the recovery process
- Social reintegration and educational opportunities
- Incorporation of cutting-edge technologies such as VR therapies and mobile mental health apps
We are open to partnerships with international organisations, medical institutions, and experts to collectively build an effective support system for those who have given everything in defence of Ukraine.
